To the best of my knowledge there were only 2 books. The series began in 1976 with a Little Golden Book called "The Backwards Picnic" by Joan Chase Bowden and illustrated by Joanne E. Koenig. Following that was a Whitman Tell-a-tale Book called The Ice-Cream Parade by Joan Chase Bowden and illustrated by Kate Lang.

The story begins with Sarah in her brown gingham frock putting together a picnic. She fills up her little dogcart and tries to get Dan to join her in a picnic, but he has chores to do. Sarah wanders through town and gets some more goodies for her cart from each neighbor until the cart gets full. Sarah sits alone at the picnic grounds after taking the cart way up a steep hill. When the cart rolls downhill and lands back in Dan's haystack he tells her of his solution. If Sarah helps with his chores they will be done sooner and can enjoy their backward picnic.
The art style is very simplified from what the paper dolls evolved into and the story is cute. Sarah looks to be a few years younger than in the sticker books and paperdolls.
The book is 24 pages long.

The story begins with Katie in her toyroom when her cousin Albert arrives for a visit. We get our first glimpse of her parents as they suggest a trip to the ice-cream parlor for a treat. Katie loads up her wagon with some dolls and heads off to the ice-cream parlor, stopping to invite various friends to her cousin's welcoming party, but all are busy and can't join her. A sad Katie reaches town and puts a huge tub of ice-cream in the wagon, but on the way home the ice-cream starts to melt, until cats and dogs start following Katie. Some kids join in and a pet parade follows, until even an organ grinder and his monkey join the fun. When Katie gets back home, the ice-cream is all gone, but the kids and pets and monkey stay for the party anyway.
The ice-cream parlor is the same one in the boxed set Katie's Ice Cream Parlor, including Mr Cherry the owner and the organ grinder and his monkey.
The art style is very simplified from what the paper dolls evolved into and the story is cute. Katie looks to be a few years younger than in the sticker books and paperdolls.
The book is 28 pages long.
