Pictures of BunnyLand

BunnyLand came about over the course of many many months. I found myself spending more and more time on it as I got sicker and sicker from hormone therapy for precancerous endometrial cancer. Never got to the active stage thank goodness, but in the mean time I had months of pain and discomfort. I found that instead of doping up with the muscle relaxants I could, instead, grab the lego bins and work, and make hours fly by without need of medication. Hubby was very generous during this time, which helped me accumulate all the specialty pieces I needed, all the cool new sets, etc., etc., etc.

The park began with the desire for a roller coaster. I had used the monorail set to make a little Christmas train round my tree in December of 1994. I then wanted bigger, better track setups. So I bought another 2 monorail sets, and a lot of accessory track sets. With my nephew's help we then assembled the roller coaster, originally with 3 full loops at its loop-de-loop. We had to disassemble it for house parties, but more and more rides began to creep into my imagination. The bumper cars were almost entirely my nephew's design, with minimal changes from me regarding the entrance and exit. The Merry-Go-Round and Lepus Pavilion were easily accomplished when I bought a few motors and light sets. Carny Row was developed after we went to a city carnival. Each new ride made me smile, and made my days a little easier. Finally, though, in January of 1996, we had a sudden need to relocate. The house was falling apart around us, and within 2 weeks of our old lease expiring we had to find a new place. I borrowed a relative's camcorder though, knowing if I didn't capture the Park before its disassembly, I'd never be able to remember the details, or even all the rides I designed.

The videotape ended up taking over 2 hours to film, and unfortunately, my space here is limited so I cannot share all the details or great touches that really made BunnyLand incredible, like the cutlass slipped between the torso and legs of a soldier minifig in the Pirates of the West Suburbs Ride, so that he looks well run through, or the boy bending over the toilet by the food court, obviously overcome by too much rich food and fast rides, or the way so many of the riders hold hands on the rides, and each seat has a seat belt of some sort, or the fight breaking out in one of the waiting lines between a biker and a businessman. I tried to capture the best of each ride, but can share only little glimpses.

Bunnyland covered the entire floor of our dining room, easily filled a space approximately 6' by 12'. As I filmed each building it was then de-peopled and disassembled as my husband taped closed my brick bins. I couldn't bear disassembling the ferris wheel, and it is the only remaining ride from the park. I never did finish the rides in progress, including a plane ride that went up and down, a giant slide, a chute ride, a space mountain, a fun house, a tunnel of love, and a parachute drop. Maybe someday BunnyLand will get its additions. Until then, enjoy...
