Here are photos of 5 of the 6 dolls from the 1999 Philipinne editions of the Barbie Dolls of the World series. These dolls were produced by Richwell under license from Mattel for distribution in that part of the world.

The 5 countries represented (from left to right) are Japan, Italy, Mexico, India and Greece. There was also a Native American doll but I never got her.




Here are close-ups of the faces for the dolls of Japan, Italy and India. India wears a lovely light fuschia choli and skirt trimmed in gold with a pink sash stamped with a gold leafy pattern.




For release in 2002 Richwell did a Philipinnes edition of 7 different Asian Barbie Dolls of the World under license from Mattel.

Each doll features the closed Mackie face and stunning ethnic costumes representing key cultures of Asia.

The 7 countries represented are :
(TOP left to right) India, Thailand, and Korea.
(BOTTOM left to right) Philipinnes, Vietnam, Japan, and China.








I don't have these yet but hope to get them soon. The best source I know for them is Dolly, who was kind enough to grant me permission to use her photos. She sells on ebay under the seller name doll_ph or you can email cupoftea@skyinet.net. I've personally bought from her and she is prompt and friendly.

My 2 favorite dolls from this series would be India and Thailand.


The India doll features a bright fuschia choli and skirt, each hemmed in gold trim with a pink floral printed pattern. A sash in the same gold and pink trim wraps around her torso.
