Roopvati Rajasthani

This is Roopvati Rajasthani from the Indian state of Rajasthan. She has braided black hair and light brown eyes. Jewelry includes bell shaped earrings, a nose ring, enameled green necklace, 4 rows gold necklace, bow ring, red bangles, gold and white beaded bracelets, gold chain anklets, green rhinestone headdress, and a gold chain belt.

Her finery includes a skirt and blouse in dark green and red, with tons of gold trim and seed pearls and bangles and bracelets. She has a conical headpiece to lift the scarf off her head. The scarf itself is gauzy yellow with gold dots, green fringe, and red and gold beaded trim. There are even tiny mirrors sewn onto it. I did swap out the outrageous 3/4" diameter nosering for one more to scale. She is of course, simple stunning.

Mystical Manipuri

This is Mystical Manipuri from the Indian state of Manipur.
She wears the traditional dance dress from that region. Her
hair is in a braided bun and she has light brown eyes. So far,
she is the only Expressions of India doll without a nosering.
Her jewelry includes gold teardrop earrings, a bow ring, long gold
necklace, v-shaped gold necklace with red rhinestones, red and
yellow bangles, gold chain anklets, and a gold ring and chain
headdress. She also wears a red flower in her hair.

Her finery includes a bell shaped skirt in red with lovely patterns
in gold thread. An overskirt of white gauze has lines of gold thread
and is edged with mirrors and gold trim. Her green sash belt is also
trimmed with gold thread and mirrors. A black cotton blouse is trimmed
with red and gold braid. She also wears a transparent soft gauzy white
veil with red and gold braided edging.

Her elaborate costume is elegant and detailed and she is a showpiece for
anyone who adores the costumes of other cultures.

This is a pre-relase photo of the Gujaroti Expressions of India,

whether or not it was ever produced/released. If you have one of

I am using very generalized definitions of the Indian garments summarized from the FashionIndia website. For the best information and Indian clothing references, check out Fashion India's Glossary of Indian Fashion and India Tourism & Travel .

CHOLI: A tight-fitting short, bodice-like blouse.

GHAGHRA: A flared skirt, made up of several triangular gored pieces stitched together.

KURTA: A collarless or mandarin collar tunic, slightly loose-fitting garment for outer wear, often with a round neck, of knee-length or even longer, with side-slits at the hem and generally flared skirt.

LUNGI: A skirt like garment, made from a long straight cloth. Originally worn by men, today it is worn by men and women. Simply put, it is a short length of material worn around the thighs like a sarong.

LEHANGA: A skirt. Worn generally in combination with an odhani.

ODHANI/ORHNI or DUPATTA: A wrapping veil/cloth, worn tucked in at the waist and wrapped around the back and over the head, the free end being draped over the shoulder.

SALWAR-KAMEEZ: Salwars are pyjama-like trousers drawn tightly in at the waist and the ankles. Over the salwars, women wear a long and loose tunic known as a kameez.

SARI: A single length of material, rectangular and five to six yards in length. The style, color and texture of this cloth varies. Can be worn in several ways and its manner of wearing as well as its color and texture are indicative of the status, age, occupation, region and religion of the wearer.
