Mandy awakens when she smells something...

"Cobra!" "Put out that fire" "This is Sunday! Don't you remember the rules?" "Do you want to get us into trouble?" With that, she takes one of the empty water bottles, dips it into the ocean, and fills it, then runs to the fire and douses the flames. Under her breath, she whispers "idiot!", and shakes her head in disbelief at Cobra. She then goes back to bed...

Wakes up and says her prayers and decides to take a morning walk before breakfast. The rest of the group is still asleep, except for Cobra. Hi Cobra! Good morning! Isn't it a glorious day?"

You awake to hear very faint echoes of what can only be a very experience church choir, in fact on Kosrae the church choirs can be heard around the entire island and are known to be quite moving. They have adapted the traditional New England hymns into a more South Pacific islander pattern, with men and women singing separate parts in a call and response style, or singing togther blended into complex harmonies. You can't hear it perfectly, but what you do hear is breathtaking.

The morning is sunny and bright and the waters are crystal clear.

"Take it easy, Lyda... Don't fall! There, you got them!!!! We'll be able to have some bananas tomorrow or the next day after they ripen some more. Let's go show the others! We had a productive walk after all. What do you want to do when we get back to camp? I'd like to wash my face a little. I miss taking showers every day. In fact, Maybe I'll go to the stream and take a bath with a little of our soap. Want to join me? I need to get cleaned up real bad! Wish we could have brought some deodorant...."

"That was a nice refreshing bath." Does anyone want some cold oatmeal?" "We can't cook it today, but we can stir in cold water and eat it." "We have those tangerines to eat today...1 for each of us!" Mandy wrings her long hair out over the sand and watches the drips push down the loose sand. "Hang man sound like fun!" Mandy says after thinking a few moments.

Mandy walks over to Cobra and extends a hand. "Friends?" "I'm sorry I was so harsh on you early this morning, but you scared me." "I don't want the natives to throw us off the island!"

She walks back over to the girls and sits down next to Wanda. "Wanda, you mentioned television earlier." "What is your favorite show?" "I love watching all the shows on TV Land."

Mandy goes under the bushes and pulls out the tangerines bundled in her Ocono wrap. She passes tangerines out to everyone and then sits back down in the shade to eat hers. "Mmmmmmm, these are just right!"

Lyda has finished combing the snarls out of Roxie's hair and is now working on Lola's, hits a tangle and Lola lets out a squeak. "you guys will think I am strange" she says, " but I love documentaries, especially scarey ones like Haunted History and I also really like Investigative reports. I also love watching the old shows on Nickelodeon!"

"Yes I sure do believe in ghosts and I think they can communicate with us. My Mom had a friend who died a long time ago and she didn't get to go to his funeral and had no idea where he was buried because it was in another town, and she was always really sad about that. so anyway many years later after she was married to my dad she was talking to his cousins and found out they had also gone to school with Rick and they told her where the cemetery was but they did not remember where in the cemetery he was buried. so one evening pretty late Dad drove her out into the country with flowers for his grave and they found the cemetery alright but it was HUGE and they had no idea where to start lookiing and it was beginning to get dark and the grounds keeper was standing at the gate wanting them to leave so he could lock the gate so Dad said maybe they should come back another day earlier but Mom said no I want to at least look for a few minutes. so Dad pulled up a few roads into the cemetery and he said he would go one way and Mom could go the other way and see what happened but they both thought no way, this place is so big and we have no time before that grounds guy is gonna kick us out. Anyway Mom looked at like 4 or 5 tombstones then came to a place where there were like 5 or 6 little stones in a row the ones that lay on the ground and the first one she looked at was his, bing just like that!!!!! so she got to leave her flowers and have a good cry before they left that night. she really believes she was led to his grave, See rick had committed suicide and Mom always prayed for his soul and she really thinks that somehow subconciously he led her there because she really had a desire to visit his grave and leave him flowers!!!" (this is also a true story)

Wanda waits until it's almost dark to tell her story... It's pretty scary just sitting in the camp without a fire or any light so she figures it is the perfect time to tell her story....she tells in slow quiet whispers....

"Well, I'm from the south side of Chicago. We have a huge cemetary in town called Holy Cross cemetary and it has its own ghost!. She's nicknamed Bloody Mary or the Bloody bride because folks will drive by, and my momma said she knew the story when SHE was a little girl so it must be true. Folks will drive by and see a young woman with long blond hair walking by the road. She is wearing a wedding dress with a long veil and flowers in her hair like a hippy. It's not an old-fashioned dress so momma thinks she must have died in the 50's... Anyway Mary will ask for a ride and she seems perfectly normal and pretty and alive, and she'll get out when you get to the edge of the intersection where the cemetary ends (where they just put up a new McDonalds). Then she gets out of the car and starts walking back the way she came, but from the back she is all bloody. And the story goes she was going to get married and got hit by a car crossing the street and got buried in her wedding dress and she keeps walking that road trying to get to her wedding.

I like that they pick a different location like a state or city for each show and tell about all it's haunted places, I loved the one about Gettysburg because I have been there, and I felt like the field was haunted, you know by Pickett's charge and Cemetery Ridge and Seminary ridge?? Let's tell some more ghost stories, shucks too bad we can't light a fire, that would make it perfect. Hey boys do you have any good stories to tell us?? "Okay, I'll tell a couple of scary things!" "First, when my grandfather was dying of cancer, my parents were sitting in the waiting room of the hospital. It was a still, hot July evening. A minister was sitting there talking to them when a woosh of air fluttered down the hallway. The minister stated that it was my Grandfather's soul leaving. Then, a day or so later, my Grandma was looking at gravesites and trying to decide which one to buy. As she looked at expensive sites, the wind would blow fiercely. When she looked at less expensive sites, the wind would die down." Mandy looked at all the little faces lit only by the moonlight. "Then, there was the time that my sister had a doll that that same grandfather had given to her. Dad was cleaning up the basement and he threw the doll into the trash bag. Suddenly, a spray starch can, with the lid still on it, flew around the basement, hit me on the shoulder, and then fell to the floor at my Dad's feet. Needless to say, he removed the doll from the bag and gave it to my sister. She later cut it up to make a puppet and threw it away on her own with no incident." Hmmmm, were those scarey enough? (All true too!)

We have a friend now who claims that she has a ghost in her house. She hears walking like cowboy boot sounds up and down her hallway at night. The sound is accompanied by the sound of little dog walking sounds like dog feet on tile. She thinks it guards the house. It supposedly pulled a prank on her one night by moving her coat from a door knob onto a chair. Personally, I'd be out of there!" "While I totally believe in ghosts, I'm not sure I want to see one!"

Lola fans the air from Cobra's latest gas. "That is definitely scary. I've never seen a ghost, but my aunt did. My dad's family moved into an old house and all kinds of bad things happened to them. My dad got really sick and other bad things happened to other members of his family. Anyway, my aunt kept seeing this woman in the hall upstairs and later she saw the ghost of a man hanging. When they told the neighbors about it, they found out that one of the previous residents caught his wife cheating. He killed her and then hanged himself. And those were the ghosts." (also true)

"Seeing Wanda with those hibiscus flowers reminds me...I want to gather some eucalyptus tomorrow. I think it smells so good." Mandy stands up and stretches. Just then, a fruit bat flys by and she shrieks. "Yikes! I hate those bats!" Mandy hears something scurry in the underbrush and she shivers. These ghost stories are really going to make it difficult to sleep tonight!

"You know what we ought to do tomorrow? We should search around and see if we can find a cave to explore. The pamphlet we read about the island mentioned caves, didn't it?" Mandy yawns and stretches some more. "Boy am I sleepy!"

Mandy goes over to her back pack and tries to get comfortable for the night. "Boy, sometimes I wish my luxury item was a pillow!" "Good night everyone! I hope you are able to sleep after those stories." She yawns once again and drifts off to sleep while listening to the animated voices of her teammates as they continue to tell stories around the dark fire pit. Fruit bats continued to fly around squeaking as they swoop down for bugs and fruit. Mandy tried to block out the noises of the ever deafening jungle as she begins to dream. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

"Hey everybody, these have been some great stories, and this has been fun, but tomorrow is another day and we will have to work hard again so what say we all turn in and get some sleep? If we all sleep close snuggled together we won't be afraid of the dark. Cobra you on the end downwind of the rest of us okay (giggle, giggle)" and so saying she goes to the shelter and snuggles under her rain coat and lays her head on an edge of Roxie's pillow, and waits for Roxie and Lola to take up their spots on either side of her, "goodnight everyone yawn yawn zzzzzzzzz"

Mandy awakens to a new day...the 7th day on the island. She thinks about the ghost stories from the night before and shakes her head. A chill runs up her spine as a lizard scurries in front of her. She seems to be the first one awake. She takes care of business and decides to wear her beach cover-up dress today. As she slips on her sandals, she tries to figure out what should be done first. Finally, she decides to start the fire first. She gathers some kindling and tries to rub sticks together. She tries and tries to get a spark...

Comes back from her morning walk on the island... "I didn't find any food today Mandy, but I saw some interesting plant life. I don't think any of it is edible but some of it might be useful to make things out of. Mandy are you having trouble with making a fire? It is hard sometimes. It feels a little damp today for some reason. Would you like to let me try? I see some of the others getting up now. Good morning! Did you all sleep well after all those ghost stories. I didn't hear all of them, because I dozed off to sleep early. Then I woke up and everyone else was asleep. I didn't have any trouble going back to sleep though. Here's our fire! Let's have something to eat."

Puts kindling on the small fire and Mandy helps...

The temperature has been staying around 86 or 87 degrees but with the humidity at 74% the heat index (how hot it FEELS in the sun) is 96 degrees F. It's mostly cloudy with showers off an on all day.

"Thanks for your help, Roxie. I never would have gotten that fire started." Mandy looks at the other sleepy children as they wake up. "What does everyone want for breakfast?" she asks. "You know, Roxie, you mention making things. That would be so much fun! We could all gather stuff and then see what we can make out of it. It would be a nice thing to do in the shade this afternoon when it is really hot!"

Mandy opens up the wooden barrel of oatmeal and peers down at the empty bottom. "Oh, oh...we've used one whole barrel of oatmeal and we've only been here a week!" "I think we'd better figure out some sort of way to ration this a bit better!" She says as she shakes her head.

is finally up, after a long night. He wanders down to the beach, and is burping "Jingle Bells" under his breath...only it isn't the Christmas version.

No one can be sure who he is saying smells....could be anyone, but pretty sure it is some tribal member.....he seems to be in a reflective mood today.

"Sheesh!" says Mandy while tossing her hair to one side. "Do we all want oatmeal this morning or should we save it for days with no food and Sundays?"

Mandy hesitates doing anymore preparations for breakfast until the others state their preferences...

As Mandy goes for water, it starts to rain once again. It feels kind of nice since it is so hot. Mandy gets to the stream and fills the water bottles and the canteen. Next, she dangles her feet into the cool water. Boy does that feel refreshing! She lays down in the grass by the edge of the stream and leaves her feet dangling in the water. She drifts off to sleep...

Suddenly, she is jolted awake by a little fish nibbling on her toes. "Oh no you don't!" she says. She tries to grab the fish in the water and falls head first into the stream. Luckily, it is shallow and slow moving or she'd be in BIG trouble! She sheepishly pulls herself out of the stream and looks around to see if anyone saw her fall in...

"Ok girls, while Mandy is getting water and Roxie and Wanda are fishing, Lola and I will stay here and pick up the camp, it is pretty messy again. Then we'll get more firewood and get ready to fix lunch, wonder what is gonna go on today, are we supposed to have any challenges or anything??? I'm ready for some excitement. Yesterday was so laid back!!!"

Wanda laughs, "oh c'mon, it was a joke!" you guys need to lighten up. If you can't laugh about to deal with it then you hold all that tension inside you. I'll bet that's why Cobra farts so much...he doesn't laugh enough to let out all the air.."

She chuckles to herself and puts the fish down to clean it and chop off its head and tail. She sits the head right on a log by the fire. "Let me know if you have a good view Brooke." teeheehee

The showers seem to have ended for the day leaving it a balmy 84 degrees with a delightful breeze coming from the East/Northeast. You are delighted to actually see a school of dolphins playing far out in the water. way to far for any of you to swim, but it is still nice to see.

"Yes it seems to be brightening up, no more clouds. those dolphins sure are pretty, they look like they haven't got a care in the world!!! wish I could swim out and join them. Lola, you have been so quiet today, are you feeling a bit homesick?? I get homesick easily too, cheer up, enjoy yourself and soon we will be home again and look back on the good time we had surviving!!!"

Hey Lyda Ruth, do you want to help me go look for some more kindling? Wanda's busy with the fish and Mandy's busy with the water. We'll need it to cook the fish and sterilize the water."

"CJ, I guess that makes sense." As CJ walks away from the group to think, Mandy yells, "You could gather firewood for the fire!" Mandy had just returned with the water and she pours it into the pan to boil and sterilize. She sees the 7lb. Tuna and squeals with glee. "Oh, boy! We sure are doing well so far! I can't believe the size of that fish!"

Mandy goes over to the ocean edge and washes her hands. She then returns to camp to help get the food ready.

As soon as Lola and Lyda Ruth are away from the group, Lola whispers, "I've got a deal for you. I found an avocado tree yesterday. I picked some and there's plenty more." She reaches in her backpack and hands one to Lyda Ruth. "Because you're my friend, I'll share with you. And maybe you could let me use your brush and comb? My hair is a mess!"

After saying that, Cobra grabs a small piece of the tuna and pops it in his mouth..."This is...great! It just sort of melts in my mouth! I bet it would be really tasty with limes!!!!" Cobra lets a silent but deadly one and wanders off in search of limes....

comes back to camp carrying a lime in one hand, and a toad in the other. He comes in and asks if there is more fish, and accidentally drops the toad in an open container of water.

"Oh.....geez...sorry guys!" Stress gets to Cobra and he cuts the cheese...then drops the lime and goes to the beach, walking fairly fast.

After a little while, Lola and Lyda return with some wood for the fire. Lola takes Roxie aside and whispers in her ear. She eyes Lyda and winks. She knows that she will have a pillow and brush at her disposal from now on. She also knows that, if her friends cross her, she hasn't revealed the location of the tree. Lola is glad that she brought her book along.

Mandy observes Lola, Roxie, and Lyda Ruth whispering back and forth. She is a tiny bit jealous because she thought she was their friend too, but they are not including her in the conversation. After feeling sorry for herself for a moment, Mandy shrugs and walks over to where Wanda is cooking the tuna. "Wanda, what do you suppose that is all about?" she asks as she motions in the direction of the other girls. "I can't imagine what they are planning!" Mandy then takes her portion of the tuna and settles down to eat. Mmmmmm, it sure is tasty!

Don't worry I know all kinds of things I won't share with folks until it suits me... You're pretty okay... She eats her tuna with gusto and moving to where the frog is resting in the water where Cobra dropped it, she carries the water away from the fire and cups her hand and pours out enough of the water for the frog to come out and puts the frog into Cobra's backpack... "oops!" teeheehee!

Mandy sees Cobra sitting next to Wanda and acting obnoxious. She decides to try to rescue her friend. "Hey, Wanda. Can you come over here and help me do something?" Hopefully that will give Wanda a chance to escape that horrible boy, Mandy thinks to herself.

Mandy starts to wash out the cooking pot in the ocean and to clean off all of the coconut bowls and eating utensils.

Mandy awakens and gets up. It's early, but she feels like she has too much energy to just lay around and sleep. She puts on her green shorts outfit and ties her hair up with the Ocono tie. After taking care of business, she puts some more kindling on the fire and gets it going once again. She walks over to the ocean edge and sits down on the white sand. As she stares at the water, she sees what looks like a shark fin. Oh, that is a bit scary! She'll have to tell the others when they wake up. It might not be such a good idea to swim in the ocean today... A coconut crab scurries across the sand and leaves a long sideways track. She studies the track and just enjoys the cool breeze. Finally, she gets up off the beach.

She returns to camp and everyone is still sleeping. She quietly gets out her soccer ball and carries it away from camp onto the beach. She kicks it around on the beach and hums to herself.

Wakes up and stretches and yawns then makes the sign of the cross on her forehead. I'm so grateful to be alive today, she thinks. She gets up and goes to the bathroom and heads out for her daily walk. She sees Mandy out on the beach but doesn't yell to her. She doesn't want to wake the others. "I wonder why Mandy has been getting up so early? I'm usually the first one up! I think I'll take a longer walk this morning. I want to see what all I can find."

She walks at a little faster pace and remembers that she doesn't have any water with her...

Gee, I hope it doesn't rain hard today. A light rain would be OK. I sure am getting tired of going to the bathroom outdoors!But it's a cool adventure!"

Mandy wakes up and after rubbing her eyes, she stares intently at Wanda. She has hermit crabs walking around her as she sleeps. Mandy quietly goes over and gets the cooking pot. She brings it over to where Wanda is sleeping and very quietly, she starts plucking crabs off of her and plunking them down into the cooking pot. "Where did these all come from?" she wonders as she works. "Oh, well...they'll make a good breakfast!"

Mandy then quietly drags the crabs over to the fire and sets the pot on the ground. She places the wooden top to the crate over the pot and places a rock on top to contain the crabs. They were already trying to escape! Next, she grabs some kindling and stokes up the dwindling fire. "When some of the others awaken, I'll ask if anyone knows how to cook them" she thinks to herself. Mandy notes that Roxie is not sleeping and wonders where she is...

You really care about the group, don't you? You're getting good at making fires. Well, I'm going to wash my face and hands and help prepare food. Do we have any fruit left?"

"Mornin all, what smells good? Oh wow crabs (secretly grimaces to herself, "oh ugh!!!" she thinks to herself, "when this is all over I will never touch a crustacean again!!!" "Well Mandy how about after breakfast you and I and CJ take the knife and go out and cut us down some leafy branches for our beds while the others work at fishing and keeping the fire going?" Then we have to get geared up for the challenge tonight. I hope that if we win we get some pop and goodies, I could sure go for a candy bar about now, or some cookies or donuts or ice cream doritos, Fritos, oh my antyhing but crabs!!!"

Thus having spoken she hungrily goes to the water to wash and then gets dressed thinking dreamily about some Hershey kisses and a chocolate milk shake.

Don't worry Mandy and Lola, you didn't do bad, it was hard and maybe the other tribe had trouble too, I mean they can't be any more genius that we are!!! Mandy awakens and rubs her eyes. Certainly she was dreaming about losing the challenge, wasn't she? Then she awakens fully and realizes that it was real. Oh, phooey! "Who am I going to vote for?" she thinks to herself. "They are all my friends..." "This is so unfair! That other tribe must be cheating!" she continues to think. Mandy dresses quickly, paying little attention to whether items go together, thus she is dressed in the Ocono shorts and the ants decorated green top...not a good match! She has more pressing things to think about than being fashionable today!

She checks the water storage bottle and it is low, as usual. She notices that Lyda Ruth and Roxie are both awake..."Morning! Do you two want to go with me to get water? Maybe we can find some food for breakfast too." Mandy grabs the water bottles and waits for their reply...

The worst part was that I twisted my ankle while I was searching for a way back." Sees Lola and Lyda Ruth coming back with water. "Hi..." she says sheepishly... Cobra and CJ walk up too. "I'm so sorry about last night!" She tells the story again...

"I'll work extra hard today fishing and looking for fruit and I will go get water next time and cook the meals. You all just relax and enjoy the day. I hope you won't hold this against me? I sure didn't mean to make a mistake like that."

"CJ, A few people have noticed your camoflage paint. I have to ask, is it designed to intimidate, to blend in with the others, or to blend in with the jungle for better espionage?"

Bless her and help her according to Your Will. It's sad to lose a team member, but Wanda was voted off, so it was her turn to go. "I'm sorry I've been so quiet the last couple of days." Mandy says as the children are setting up the Monopoly game. "I've been upset...first I was upset about how I did on the immunity challenge." "Then, when we had to vote at Tribal Council, I was upset because I felt so much pressure from everyone as to who to vote for..er..against...anyway, I decided to just be quiet and think for awhile." Mandy starts to pace. She can't quite look into the eyes of the other team members. "What do you say to us keeping our voting preferences to ourselves?" Mandy paces some more...nervously..."I have made friends with all of you and I realize that voting is part of the game, but shouldn't voting be private?" Mandy then looks from one teammate to the other. She then shrugs her shoulders and says, "Okay, I'll play too!" She proceeds to grab a game piece and to settle down around the gameboard.

Mandy is still unsure whether the others are mad at her for not visibly taking sides or not. She decides to lay low for awhile and just work toward keeping the tribe productive.

After the game was over, several of the children raced one another to the stream and filled up the two water bottles quite quickly. They brought them back to camp and after dinner, the water was boiled clean and poured into the water storage tank. They then quickly kicked sand over the fire to douse the flames for Sunday. "I can't wait to hear the choirs again tomorrow! That was so cool!" said Mandy excitedly as they were kicking sand onto the fire.

As it was getting dark, the children all curled up on the leafy mattresses to get a good night sleep. "Good night everyone!" said Mandy between yawns. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I put some sunscreen the back of my neck and ears and it feels so much less burned. Thank goodness we won the sunscreen in the reward challenge. These hats and sunglasses are cool too! I started to bring sunglasses for a luxury item. The sun really hurts my eyes without them. How's everyone doing today? Mandy, if everything is done, would you like to play a game of Monopoly and everyone else can join in...."

She picks up the Monopoly game and sits at the makeshift table.

"Alright, girls! I'll play Monopoly with you and I'm gonna beatcha!" Mandy giggles and sits down around the table. "Oh, this is so much fun!" "Weren't those choirs beautiful to hear this morning?" I almost wish that they did that every day!" "I'm glad it is cooler today too." Do we still have any bananas or tangerines left to eat? If not, I'll try to find some more later today." Mandy helps set up the game.

"Oh, Lola!" "I'm so glad you were able to find those tangerines!" "We needed some more food for today, especially since we can't cook anything!" Mandy took her turn at Monopoly and owed money to Roxie. "Oops, I landed on your property." Mandy giggles as she pays up.

After Lola eats her tangerine and some cold oatmeal, she decides that Roxie has the right idea about heading for bed. She helps straighten up the camp, then heads for bed. "G'night everybody. I think we'd be smart to get some sleep so we can do plenty of food hunting tomorrow and rest up for the challenges this week." She heads for bed.
