Daily Chat: Lil Survivors Week 5 Ocono Tribe

Mandy awakens to a new day on the island. She can hardly believe it is the 28th day...she's been keeping track! Yesterday, the girls used extra stakes to block the eel in the trap. Mandy is anxious to go to the beach and see if the eel is still there. She dresses quickly in the plaid pants and yellow shirt and takes care of business. She then runs down to the beach to see if the eel is still there...

Yes, the eel was still there, swimming around. Mandy was sure it wasn't an electric eel from the pictures in the survival guide. However, she was a little afraid of it none the less. She went back for the net that the others use to fish with and she threw it over the trap and tried to scoop up the eel that way. It took "forever" to get the eel caught up in the net, but she finally did it. Mandy then pulled the net and eel out of the water and dragged it over to a grassy patch of land away from the water. She left the eel wrapped in the net to sit until it stopped flopping around. Meanwhile, she went back to camp to get the knife. This was the part of "fishing" that she just hated! She hated cutting up and cleaning the fish. It was sickening and smelly! At least it's not so hot today and the showers are helping to keep it cooler. Mandy returns to the eel and shakes it out of the net. It seems to be dead now. She stares at it for a few minutes, swallows hard, and goes about the task of cutting its head off. She then cuts off the tail and skins the eel. She buries the head, tail, and skin far away from camp so that animals don't bother them. Then she brought the eel meat back to camp to cook for their dinner.

One of the others had already put more kindling on the fire so it was burning well. Mandy put the eel meat on a stick and proceeded to roast it for everyone's dinner. They still had some broccoli and carrots to eat with it. "I sure hope this tastes good" thought Mandy as she cooked it.

"That eel meat looks interesting. I wonder what it will taste like? I'm getting so hungry for a McDonald's cheeseburger and some fries and coke! Make that supersized!!!Hahaha~ Why is everyone so quiet today? The temperature is nice and the rain is light enough to not even worry about. I think it's a GRAND day!!! I missed seeing my Mom on Mother's Day yesterday! I'll bet she misses me too! I wonder how many more weeks we have on this island? I CAN do it! I am determined! Mandy you sure do keep busy working all morning. You seem to have a lot of energy. It smells so much nicer in camp with Cobra gone! I think we were getting used to his gaseous erruptions? We've got to do really well with the immunity challenges from now on! I hope they won't be too hard!"

Looks at the eel with some trepidation, but as they are all hungry most of the time she thinks she will take a bite after all. Mandy sure is brave for catching and fixing it. "I missed my Mom too yesterday that is one of the reasons I have been so quiet today. I also really love drizzly weather, I love to walk in the rain and think, so I was gone doing that a lot yesterday and today. I also love to sit by a smoky campfire and relax"

"I only took one bite of eel and I can't eat another! I'll eat the other stuff we have and it will be plenty. I just can't stand the thought of eating an eel! Yuk! The sun is setting now and it looks really pretty. Lyda, you seem to be in a reflective mood today? I have days like that myself. Lola are you OK? You haven't said a word today?"

Looks off into the sunset and sighs as she misses her home...

Lola makes a face as she chews her bite of eel. "Yeah, I'm okay, Roxie. I am just a little homesick. I really missed celebrating Mother's Day with my mom yesterday. If I were home, we'd be having fried chicken or hamburgers or anything but eel!"

Mandy looks at Roxie and answers her question about chopping off the eel's head. "I hated it! That is one of the reasons why I pulled it out of the water and walked away until it died. I couldn't stand the thought of killing it," said Mandy. Mandy takes a bite of the eel meat and crinkles up her nose. "I agree with you, Roxie. I'll stick with the other foods too. How do you like the eel meat, Lyda Ruth?" "Hey, Lola, did you want to try some eel meat?" Mandy leaves the rest of the meat for Lyda Ruth and Lola. "Personally, if I see any more eels in my trap, I'm letting them out!" she giggles.

Mandy eats one of the cookies the others made and is grateful they have something yummy to eat.

" "Lyda Ruth, Roxie...I have to admit, I miss my family and friends at home too," says Mandy as she stares at the flames of the fire. "I wonder what they are all doing right now."

Mandy gets up and stirs the fire, trying to hide the tears coming down as she feels homesick. "We are doing very well, but after all, we are just children. I guess we should be missing our Mommies."

"Hey, we need to get out of this homesick frame of mind or Nicarong will beat us again!" says Mandy suddently. "What can we do to take our minds off our homesickness?" "How about if we go to sleep now and plan on taking some time tomorrow to have some fun. Maybe we could make something out of nature items tomorrow. I would love that!" says Mandy enthusiastically.

Mandy quickly cleans up the "kitchen" and goes to the ocean to wash up. She checks the trap and sees a fish swimming around in it. "Good, no more eels!" she thinks to herself. Mandy returns to camp and snuggles under the beach blanket. It is dark enough that it is chilly tonight...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

"Well, considering that we don't know anything about these kids, the only thing that could really influence who's going to race against whom is how they've done on previous challenges. I asked Gia a question and I'm waiting to hear back from her to make sure I understand correctly. However, it seems to me there are two ways to play. The safe way (where we pick five for each leg of the race, or the gambling way, where we pick some higher numbers and some lower numbers and hope that our higher numbers are the ones picked in the roll of the dice."

to clarify a few points: I will roll separately for each individual race, BUT if there is a tie meaning each tribe has won 4 individual races, THEN one last roll is made, and the points from each member for that leg are totalled for the tiebreaker.... Also, choose WHATEVER numbers you like as long as the total adds up to 30

Also: discuss your strategy, but please don't post the exact numbers you'll be choosing just on the off chance that an enemy tribemember has found your website and may be spying...

Mandy is so excited about tomorrow that she can hardly contain herself. To keep from being totally nervous, she mashes up some taro and some bananas and fries some cookies. She makes enough so that each girl can have one tonight, plus she saves four cookies for tomorrow's breakfast. When the breakfast cookies are cooled, she carefully stores them in the jar they won in last week's reward challenge.

Next, Mandy goes down to the ocean and washes her face. It is getting dark and the sunset is beautiful! "I sure hope we win every challenge this week!" she thinks to herself. Mandy then returns to camp. "Girls, I think I'm going to go to sleep. I want to be well rested for those races tomorrow. After all, we all have to run two races to their one!" says Mandy with a yawn. She stretches and then goes to the shelter and crawls underneath the beach blanket. Soon, there is a quiet snoring sound coming from the shelter...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (We will win both this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sweet dreams!)

Is not quite ready for sleep yet, and notices that Roxie is still awake too. "Hey Rox, don't worry about racing Pierre and Trey, sure they are boys and supposed to be stronger but as athletically inclined as you are and with all the hiking you have done since we got here I would say you can take them. Tomorrow is important but Thursday is even more important, if we lose again on Thursday one of us will be going home and it should be me, I don't want to leave you guys quite yet either, so we have to work hard and pray we win!!!"

The girls whisper back and forth a while longer and then start to nod off. Right before she falls sound asleep, Lyda mumbles to Roxie, "Gee Rox, that ole sandman snuck up on me againzzzzzzz"

Mandy wakes up and eagerly greets the day. She can't wait to run those races and win some more rewards! She takes care of morning business and dresses for the day. No one else is awake yet as it is very early. Mandy has a lot to do today, so she grabs the water jugs right away and heads to the stream. While there, she decides it would be a good idea to take a bath, so she goes downstream to the bathing area and jumps in. The water is so refreshing! After cleaning up, she dresses once more and heads back up stream to fill the bottles. She walks back to camp, adds kindling to the fire and puts the water on to boil. "I think I'll make all of us some oatmeal this morning," she thinks. "We can eat oatmeal and then each have a cookie. We'll need the energy they will provide!" Once the water boils clean, she pours it into the storage tank and walks out to the beach. She sits under the beach umbrella and watches some dolphins jumping in the ocean. "Oh what a beautiful sight!" she thinks.

Lola awakens early for a change, pumped about the boat races. She is an avid sailor and can't wait to win this challenge (at least she hopes). She goes down to check the water and see how the current is flowing. "Good morning, Mandy!" she calls. "Isn't it a gorgeous day?"

Lyda Ruth and Marissa face off now, and each looks utterly determined to win as they climb into the boats. The first leg they are very close, with Lyda Ruth rowing 5 yards and Marissa rowing 4 yards.

In the second leg of the race Marissa starts to pull ahead, rowing 7 yards as Lyda Ruth rows only 5.

Mandy runs her second race of the day, this time against Meghan. Each girl climbs into the rowboat eager and excited to race. The first leg is close, but Mandy pulls a little ahead, rowing 5 yards as Meggie rows only 4 yards.

The athletic girls seem evenly matched as each player rows 6 yards in the next leg. You can see the sweat on their forehead and the set of their chins as they race, each girl is giving her all!

Each girl uses every muscle, every ounce of endurance as they row the last leg, with each girl rowing 3 yards. It takes a moment to see who won this, but Mandy won by 1 yard with a total of 14 yards to Meggie's 13 yards.

That's two races won for each tribe! and the score is 10 to 10!

The next race up is Lola vs Aggie, and the tension is beginning to mount! Gia eats a donut right in front of everyone and mmmmm mmm mmmms just to remind you what is at stake. The girls climb into the rowboats and take off! The first leg they stay right neck to each other, rowing 5 yards each!

The second leg is a very close run, with Lola pulling forwarsd just a tiny bit at the end to row 6 yards as Aggie rows 5 yards. It's going to be another close one folks!

It's time for Lyda Ruth's second race of the day and she jumps into the boat, ready to take on Laura Elizabeth better known as Lollie. The girls are ready to test their strength and determination as they pick up the oars. Lyda Ruth gains a small advantage rowing 5 yards as Lollie rows only 4, but the race has just started.

Lyda's lead increases though, in the second leg, as she rows 5 yards again, but Lollie rows only 3 yards.

The second leg only confirms the Ocono lead as Roxie rows another 5 yards and Trey manages only 2 more yards!

Nicarong watches with absolute attention as Roxie sweeps the last leg with 5 more yards and Trey falls far behind with only 2 more yards.

This was no close race as Roxie rushed by with 15 yards total to Trey's 6 yards. Ocono gains 5 more points! The last race will either make a tie, or send Ocono to the sugar shack with all the donuts!

From Colleen: It's up to Lola and Inita now, as each team hungrily eyes the still warm boxes of donuts. The orange juice has drops of condensation on the bottle and the ice cold milk is just begging to be gulped! Who will take home the prize?

Lola and Inita size each other up and they climb into the boats. Oars in hand, each seems sworn to win the goodies for their tribe! The first leg does not look promising for Nicarong as Lola slips past quickly pulling a quick 5 yards as Inita struggles to row 2 yards.

In the second leg Inita finds a surge of strength and rows 8 yards! closing the distance between the boats as Lola rows a steady 5 yards. they are neck and neck at this point with 10 yards each!

The suspense is terrible as every player roots for their team and all eyes are glued to the race! In the very last moments Inita surges ahead with 8 yards as Lola pulls 5 more yards!

From Colleen: as mentioned, the tie-breaker will be every player participating, as I roll the dice one last time, and that number will be the leg that is used to total up how many yards each team gets in the sudden death tie-breaker!Every player climbs into a rowboat, and give it their all!!!! Roxie rows 5 yards and 5 yards, Mandy rows 6 yards and 5 yards! Lyda Ruth rows 5 yards and 5 yards, and Lola rows 6 yards and 5 yards, for a tribal total of 42 yards!

Nicarong tries their hardest and brings up every ounce of strength, Pierre rows 9 yards, Inita rows 2 yards, Aggie rows 6 yards, Meggie rows 3 yards, Marissa rows 3 yards, Moon rows zero yards, Trey rows 2 yards and Lollie rows 6 yards for a tribal total of 31 yards.

Ocono wins!!! the dozens of hot flaky soft gooey sugary donuts are placed in their eager hands. The jug of orange juice and ice cold milk is handed to them with a fun horseshoe toss game. Congratulations Ocono!

This helped her to do a little better on the second part, but still not a perfect score. Mandy comes back to camp nervous about how they will come out of this, but relieved that her part is over. She goes over and drowns her frustrations in a Krispy Kreme donut...

Mandy awakens first. "Hmmmm, I guess yesterday was more exhausting than we imagined!" she says as she yawns and stretches. She gets up and dresses, knowing that at least for a week, they are all safe. She smiles as she greets the day and goes for water. When she arrives at the stream, she goes downstream and takes a bath. It is so refreshing to take these early morning baths! She then dresses again and goes back upstream for fresh water.

Back at camp, she starts boiling the water. "I think I'll take a rubber glove and gather some Taro this morning before the others awaken. "Maybe we can make something delicious today!" she thinks to herself as she walks into the forest...

Upon awakening yawns and smiles happily, begins to hit the others with Roxie's pillow that she has snatched from under her head, Roxie groans and rubs her eyes, and gives Lyda a silly look. "Up and at um everybody, today we celebrate, no tribal council for us tonight, and we have almost a whole week before we have to worry about challenges again, besides that we have gloves and skin lotion and we had donuts. Today we play and swim and just be happy!!!! I think we are on a winning streak now girls, first the rewards and now the immunity, we can do it again, the tide has turned for us"

She continues thrasing with the pillow and bouncing around the shelter till the others rise and greet the happy new day with her. Lola grabs the pillow from Lyda and starts whomping her with it, gleefully yelling "Okay, now you take that, (thunk) and that (thwap)and chases Lyda down to the beach as she takes off running laughing joyfully "Thank you God for this glorious day and for Krispy Kreme donuts!!!"

She picks it up and throws the whole thing onto the fire. "There, take that you bugs!" She sees Lola and Lyda Ruth playing by the ocean. It looks like they are chasing each other. "Looks like fun!" thinks Mandy as she decides to chase after them.

She fills the bottles quickly and brings them back to camp and starts to boil the water. While it is boiling, she decides to take a quick walk into the forest to see if the banana tree is ready to yield any new bananas...

Mandy decides she'd better check her fish trap. "Maybe they will have some fish for dinner tonight!" thinks Mandy as she goes over to check. Sure enough, there are three small fish swimming around in there. Mandy runs back to camp to get the netting. She scoops them out and takes them down the beach a ways to skin them. She prepares them and then buries the other parts so the animals don't find them. She brings the meat back to camp to cook up for dinner. "Don't we have some rice left over too? We could cook it up and have rice and fish." Mandy suggests to the others.
