Battle of the Boats!
You arrive at challenge beach to see Gia step out of a green and white van holding a huge stack of green polka-dotted boxes. The unmistakable aroma of hot donuts tickles your nose and makes your tummies growl in anticipation. You see several rowboats calmly sitting in the water and waiting for you.
"Good Morning players! We thought this week we'd offer you fresh hot donuts from the famous Krispy Kreme company. We'll throw in some juice, milk, and a game of horseshoes too just for fun!"
Gia continues as she brings out the donuts. "Each tribe member will race against the other tribe, Ocono players will take two turns. Only half the race will count though! randomly determined by a dice. The race is divided into 6 sections, or "legs". You choose any number for how many yards you row in each leg of the race, as long as all 6 legs add up to 30 yards. Each race counts for 5 points and the tribe with the most points wins 3 dozen krispy kremes for their tribe!" (and 1 dozen krispy kremes to take home with their players!)
	Gia herself cannot resist the goodies and opens a 4th box just to munch on during the race. The sugar glaze is still hot and melted and the players are just drooling as she eats the sweet gooey treat.
The racing roster is as follows, Roxie vs Pierre Mandy vs Moon Lyda vs Marissa Mandy vs Meghan Lola vs Aggie Lyda vs Lolly Roxie vs Trey Lola vs Inita as posted on the boards, each race was an adventure in suspense! here is the summary:
And the first race begins!!! Roxie and Pierre each climb into a boat and take up the oars. The waters are nice and calm, and you can see the small dock 30 yards away that marks the finish line. The first leg is quickly accomplished! Roxie takes a quick lead over Pierre, she rows 5 yards, he rows 1 yard... But the second leg Pierre strains his muscles and moves 9 more yards as Roxie rows another 5, they are neck to neck at 10 yards total!
The final leg makes the difference as Roxie rows a steady 5 yards and Pierre pounds out another 9 yards! The totals for this race, Pierre 19 yards, Roxie 15 yards, Pierre wins! Both players slow down and Pierre is met by his cheerful teammates. That's 5 points for Nicarong! After the Race Pierre shakes Roxie's hand and says "good race!" Roxie shakes Pierre's hand too, saying "Good race Pierre, you are a seasoned sailor after all! I enjoyed the competition."
Next in the boats are Mandy and Moonbeam. Each takes the oars in hand. Mandy moves forward a steady 4 yards in the first leg, Moonbeam seems to be having some trouble and moves 0 yards! In the second leg, Mandy moves forward another 4 yards for a total of 8, but Moonbeam is still stopped and moves 0 yards in the second leg!
The final leg seals her fate as Moonbeam agains gets 0 yards and Mandy rows another 5 yards. Mandy wins with 14 yards and Moonbeam moved zero. That's 5 points for Ocono! Mandy then goes over to Moonbeam and shakes her hand. "Good race," says Mandy as she then hugs the hurt looking Moonbeam. Moonbeam shrugs back a tear and tries not to pout, but shakes Mandy's hand too. "You did good."
Lyda Ruth and Marissa face off now, and each looks utterly determined to win as they climb into the boats. The first leg they are very close, with Lyda Ruth rowing 5 yards and Marissa rowing 4 yards. In the second leg of the race Marissa starts to pull ahead, rowing 7 yards as Lyda Ruth rows only 5.
The last leg is a near photo finish as each player rows 5 yards, but when all is said and done, Marissa has a total of 16 yards and Lyda Ruth has a total of 15. Marissa wins! giving a total so far of 10 points for Nicarong and 5 for Ocono.
Mandy runs her second race of the day, this time against Meghan. Each girl climbs into the rowboat eager and excited to race. The first leg is close, but Mandy pulls a little ahead, rowing 5 yards as Meggie rows only 4 yards. The athletic girls seem evenly matched as each player rows 6 yards in the next leg. You can see the sweat on their forehead and the set of their chins as they race, each girl is giving her all!
Each girl uses every muscle, every ounce of endurance as they row the last leg, with each girl rowing 3 yards. It takes a moment to see who won this, but Mandy won by 1 yard with a total of 14 yards to Meggie's 13 yards. That's two races won for each tribe! and the score is 10 to 10!
The next race up is Lola vs Aggie, and the tension is beginning to mount! Gia eats a donut right in front of everyone and mmmmm mmm mmmms just to remind you what is at stake. The girls climb into the rowboats and take off! The first leg they stay right neck to each other, rowing 5 yards each! The second leg is a very close run, with Lola pulling forward just a tiny bit at the end to row 6 yards as Aggie rows 5 yards. It's going to be another close one folks!
In the last leg the girls seem equal in strength and skill, until Aggie pulls forward at the very last minute to row 6 yards as Lola rows 4 yards. It's a near miss for Ocono as Aggie rows a total of 16 yards to Lola's 15 yards, and Nicarong gets another 5 points.
It's time for Lyda Ruth's second race of the day and she jumps into the boat, ready to take on Laura Elizabeth better known as Lollie. The girls are ready to test their strength and determination as they pick up the oars. Lyda Ruth gains a small advantage rowing 5 yards as Lollie rows only 4, but the race has just started. Lyda's lead increases though, in the second leg, as she rows 5 yards again, but Lollie rows only 3 yards.
In the final leg Lollie finds amazing strength and rows 7 yards trying in vain to catch up, but she fails as Lyda Ruth rows another 5. Even Gia can't believe how close these races are, most decided on a single yard as Lyda Ruth beats Lollie 15 to 14. 5 more points for Ocono!
It's time for the last 2 races now!!! Roxie and Trey climb into the rowboats, eager and anxious to take their turns. Roxie takes a quick definitive lead, rowing 5 yards easy while Trey rows only 2 yards! The second leg only confirms the Ocono lead as Roxie rows another 5 yards and Trey manages only 2 more yards!
Nicarong watches with absolute attention as Roxie sweeps the last leg with 5 more yards and Trey falls far behind with only 2 more yards. This was no close race as Roxie rushed by with 15 yards total to Trey's 6 yards. Ocono gains 5 more points! The last race will either make a tie, or send Ocono to the sugar shack with all the donuts!
It's up to Lola and Inita now, as each team hungrily eyes the still warm boxes of donuts. The orange juice has drops of condensation on the bottle and the ice cold milk is just begging to be gulped! Who will take home the prize? Lola and Inita size each other up and they climb into the boats. Oars in hand, each seems sworn to win the goodies for their tribe! The first leg does not look promising for Nicarong as Lola slips past quickly pulling a quick 5 yards as Inita struggles to row 2 yards. In the second leg Inita finds a surge of strength and rows 8 yards! closing the distance between the boats as Lola rows a steady 5 yards. they are neck and neck at this point with 10 yards each!
The suspense is terrible as every player roots for their team and all eyes are glued to the race! In the very last moments Inita surges ahead with 8 yards as Lola pulls 5 more yards! Inita has a total of 18 yards to Lola's 15 and there is a tribal tie!!!! Stay tuned for the tie breaker!
"A tie?" says Mandy in disgust. "Why don't we all just sit down here and all eat the donuts?" Mandy looks at Gia as she says this..."We could have one big party with both tribes!" As mentioned, the tie-breaker will be every player participating, as I roll the dice one last time, and that number will be the leg that is used to total up how many yards each team gets in the sudden death tie-breaker!Every player climbs into a rowboat, and give it their all!!!! Roxie rows 5 yards and 5 yards, Mandy rows 6 yards and 5 yards! Lyda Ruth rows 5 yards and 5 yards, and Lola rows 6 yards and 5 yards, for a tribal total of 42 yards! Nicarong tries their hardest and brings up every ounce of strength, Pierre rows 9 yards, Inita rows 2 yards, Aggie rows 6 yards, Meggie rows 3 yards, Marissa rows 3 yards, Moon rows zero yards, Trey rows 2 yards and Lollie rows 6 yards for a tribal total of 31 yards.
Ocono wins!!! the dozens of hot flaky soft gooey sugary donuts are placed in their eager hands. The jug of orange juice and ice cold milk is handed to them with a fun horseshoe toss game. Congratulations Ocono!
	Pierre shakes Mandy's hand too and jokingly says "Thank you Mandy, I hope you enjoy the doughnuts. You don't want to leave a few boxes do you? LOL " "Pierre, if Gia would allow it, I would give you some of mine," she says with a sincere smile.
Gia would be willing to let you send no more than 2 donuts to the other team. The two donuts are sent to the other team who sends back their strongest thanks. The good sportsmanship of both tribes made Gia proud.
