Minor Details of David Efflandt

My interests involve outdoor activities when I have time. I was born in Milwaukee and graduated from Marquette University with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. I live in Elgin, Illinois.

I often compete in Solo II and High Speed Autocross with the car I drive every day. My IL/WI/IN AutoX Page includes info, graphics and schedules. Other racing info is available from Sports Car Club of America or Mark Hirt.

To escape the hectic pace of the city, I retreat to the wooded valleys of southwestern WI near the Wisconsin River [map]. This area is being preserved like it was when the first explorers came up the river by canoe. Sandy beaches and islands to explore. Wild raspberries. Unfortunately a tornado seems to have flipped my camper on its roof.

I also bike the Illinois Prairie Path [map] along the Fox River from Crystal Lake to Aurora, IL or over to Wheaten.

When the leaves turn colors and the mosquitoes are gone, my primitive instincts draw me into the northwoods [map] to stock up on nature's bounty for the long cold winter. Thoughts of charcoal grilled grouse basted with butter or a tender medium-rare venison steak are too much to resist. More on this when I get the time.

In winter you might find me cross country or downhill skiing depending upon the weather. If it gets deep I have a 4x4 truck and snowshoes.

My first computer was an 8 bit, 1 MHz Apple ][+ with 48K RAM and 143K floppies (125K w/ DOS) using a 10" color tv. It only displayed upper case letters, until I installed a lower case ROM and hardwired the shift key to the game port.

Currently running Win95 and Linux on an NEC Ready 9520 with P180 MMX overdrive @ 200 MHz, 48 meg RAM, 4.9G total HD, 4X CD, 56K fax/modem, S3 Trio64 video with Monster 3D.
