The Bucharest Bugle: Issue 01-03

Above is a view of the main square in the old part of town. The former town hall is out of sight to the right. Notice the similarity to Sibiu, another of the "seven cities."

The design of many buildings in Romania involves a "porte-cochere" or driveway what that goes through the building to an open area away from the street.

Here is the interior of a porte-cochere in Brashov. In some of these there are large open areas that are not visible from the street. Since the building blocks the sound, they can be very pleasant place to spend an evening.

Frequently there is an entrance off of the porte-cochere that leads to a flight of stairs that connects the living quarters above the street. Such entrances often have a play of light and shadow that is attractive to the eye.
This is yet another of these driveways hidden from the street. Whenever I find an open gate, I always walk in and perhaps take some pictures.
