The Bucharest Bugle: Issue 34-36A

 

On Easter Sunday, we took several bus lines and visited a monastery that is just 30 miles from Bucharest and has a famous church as part of the grounds.

This is the entrance. You can see that it has been reconstructed , something frequently true of older monasteries in Romania.

This is a fairly recent painting in the iconographic style. The rules are very strict and haven't changed for hundreds of years so the period of a given painting can be hard to determine to the unsophisticated eye (mine).

This is another recent painting from the same Monastery. Note the use of gold as a color. This is very common in the religious paintings one sees here.
