This "rock" was consciously
chosen to be a memorial to the George Thomas chapter of
the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). General Thomas earned
his reputation as "the rock of Chickamauga"
where his leadership of a valiant defense prevented a
Southern victory turning into a Northern catastrophe.
