When I moved here I told the gent from the apartment search firm
agent that I wanted to live in a three-story building and not
in one of those high-rises that soar like a wall along the Lake.
He did take me to some shorter buildings but he also persuaded
me to see one high-rise. It was a cloudy day (common enough in
Chicago, as I was to find out) but the apartment had five big
windows in the main room and three more in the bedroom. The brightness
-- on a cloudy day -- seemed incredible. I could only imagine
what the view would be like on a clear day.
I chose an apartment on the 41st floor looking south to downtown.
I love the view and still enjoy it years later. Here are some
of the scenes the winter weather have given me. This view is looking
southeast toward the the Lake. Belmont Harbor is in the top right
of the picture. The dark collection of trees between the viewer
and the Harbor is a bird sanctuary. You can see the row of tall
buildings that edge the lake. The color of Lake Michigan varies
considerably but always seems to have some green and some gray
in it.
