Living on the North Side

At 56 stories, my building is the highest north of downtown. The wide ends face due north and south and have lengthy vistas of the flat land on which Chicago is situated. (If you miss hills, think how easy the bicycling is here!)

My apartment is on the left side of the tall building about five floors above the top of the curved building on the left. Some day I am going to check out those apartments; especially if they keep increasing my rent.

This is my view to the southwest. Not many tall buildings in this direction but it is not without its own interest. The dark, low structure in the center is Wrigley Field. In the summer I leave my windows open and I can hear the crowds when they scream in unison. The distance softens the sound and piques my interest. It makes me want to turn on the radio and find out how much the Cubs are losing by. (I saw a T-shirt for sale downtown that said: "The Chicago Cubs, World Champs 1909" followed by the line: "Any team can have a bad century." Cubs fans are legendary for their fanatical support of a perennially losing cause. I used to think that the Red Sox had it tough by not winning a championship since 1917!)
