Passover Seder at Congregation
Etz Chaim - 2005
Sukkot
A
family service celebrating the Autumn harvest festival. The service is
approximately an hour and a half, with a gathering in the Sukkah for Kiddush
after the service. Don't forget to bring your "gaily decorated basket of
fruit" for donation to a local food pantry.
Simchat
Torah
A
family service that marks the end of the yearly cycle of the reading of the
Torah. We read the last portion from Deuteronomy and start again with Genesis
1:1. There's plenty of singing and dancing with the Torah in celebration. Our
Kindergarten children also are consecrated to formally mark the beginning of
their Jewish education.
Congregational
Seder
We
celebrate together as a community on the second night of Passover with a joyous
Seder. We recall the Exodus from Egypt through story, song and traditional
food. (How will Rabbi Bob keep the Afikoman from being stolen this year?)
Shavuot
A
family service in which we celebrate the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai.
The entire Torah scroll is opened around the sanctuary and the year's Bar and
Bat Mitzvah children each read the Maftir from their portion. We bring flowers
to decorate the Ark and celebrate the Spring harvest festival.
