How did the research Get Started?
Bruce and John Klingbeil
worked as Christian Science practitioners. From their practitioner
experiences of praying, they realized that some healing was the result
of spiritual healing
and some healing was the result of human faith, the placebo effect, and
expectation. When a healing happened, some people began wondering
what exactly occurred. Was the healing from dispensing prayer or
was the healing a coincidence? Bruce and John set out to analyse
prayer in action.
Bruce and John hypothesized
a way to isolate a characteristic of spiritual healing in modest scientific
experiments of healing. They hypothesized a way to test thought
to distinguish the
"ordering-characteristic" of holy thought from the confusing
mix
of human faith, the placebo
effect, and expectation.
WHAT IS SPINDRIFT IN ONE PARAGRAPH?
Spindrift founder Bruce Klingbeil said, “Our research is concerned with the interface between science and religion.” Bruce and his son John were spiritual healers who wondered if prayer could be rigorously tested under scientific conditions. Beginning in 1969, through trial and error involving some seventy experiments, Bruce and John Klingbeil developed several dozen experiments of prayer and consciousness. These healing experiments involved simple organisms such as yeast and beans and inorganic test subjects in order to limit the variables found in more complex human studies. Spindrift's most well known contribution is its two prayer styles:
(1) Goal-directed prayer which picks a goal, and (2) non goal-directed prayer which doesn't pick a goal but instead embraces the subject with the pure qualities of holiness that promotes healing. Spindrift's research in the laboratory has established evidence that prayer and consciousness can
be scientifically tested. The tests indicate the effectiveness of prayer.
