Just checking in to see about the visions' status.
I also read a few comments whiile here. The "costumes worn by people
can be seen by a trained eye. Some are very subtle, easy to miss, but
all reflect a different part of the sci fi culture.
Although I am a ways from the Windy City (In MN), I hope that the Visions' don't die out, but comeback with a new angle and visiona on the scifi throughout the litereay, cinema, and television throughout the world.

What kind of conventions are you running. I see no-one in costume, no props costumes or displays from the series. Justa bunch of people sipping beer. I could see that in a pub and not have to worry about looking at pics. HMMM....
You have a valid point, although it's worth noting that one of Visions best
attributes is its "socialization factor". The person taking pictures was a
convention staff member (working during the weekend), so she was a bit
limited on time to go to all of the events. Perhaps a "documentorial" (if
there is such a word) photographer would be something to consider. There
are also more pictures over at Visions official web site (www.hme-visions.com)

So long and thanks for all the fish? Well no, but laughs, tears, and
memories. The Dr. would be the first one to remind us that life is
change. For those who bemoan the loss of Visions, remember us old
timers felt the same when Spirit of Light and Scorpio bowed out.
Someone, if not Patti & Bob, will eventually pick up the challenge.
Here is to the next regeneration of Dr. Who conventions in Chicago!
Visions will be one tough act to follow, your team was a great bunch
to work with and Visions were always lots of fun. Good luck in the future.

Hi Cowboy Bob,
Didn't have a chance to fill out my comment form before registration closed, but I wanted to make the point that this year's Variety Show was finally perfect! Just the right length, just the right mix of acts; efficient and timely seating. You did GOOD!
Although I missed having Blakes 7 people on this, the show's 20th Anniversary year, I had a great time.
As to future guests, how about any Highlander or StarGate people, Jason Carter from Bab 5, Tony Anholt from Space 1999 (a good year), anyone from the old British series 'UFO', The Champions or a good allrounder, Leo McKern. Another idea, how about branching out to British Comedies. Our PBS stations get great responses with people from 'Are You Being Served' and 'Keeping Up Appearances'.
That's all from me. Thanks for another fun Con. Happy Christmas to you all.

was one of the best I've ever seen. It seemed to be much more eclectic than last year, AND the guests knew when to get off! We had everything from a scene from Othello to British pantomime to "Elvis". A highlight for me was Terry Walsh, who played a bit on my Celtic harp, in the hotel lobby after the con was over on Sunday. I promised to practice & play for him next year, so I hope he gets invited!

To the Vision con-com,
I am a vendor who has just returned from United Fan Con. I send you a warning. You must revise your procedures in announcing your guest list. I overheard many complaints that your "invited" tags and so forth, are being deemed as misleading to the fans. In the past, I have heard good reviews of your convention, but, please take heed, if these rumours continue your good reputation could change. I suggest you only mention guests that are on contract. I know that fans always want to know as far in advance as possible, but if they are understanding and interested in your show, they can sign up to your mailing updates. I wish you luck, and hope my suggestions are taken seriously. Thank you.

I called to get a hotel room today (12 November) and was told that there are no rooms left at the convention rate. I was told I could get a single for $160 or so. Bad news. Now I'll have to stay away from the convention and my fun will be substantially reduced. Perhaps I won't attend now. We'll see.
You should lambast the hotel for giving you false info about the registration date.

Yes, Visions is almost here... and I'd like to invite everyone to
attend this year's "Mysterious Theatre 337" live show on Friday night,
still one of the convention's best-kept secrets. This year we're
skewering the Jon Pertwee DOCTOR WHO story "Death to the Daleks" and
we want you there to join us in a laugh. As always, the live show
follows the conclusion of the Masquerade in the main ballroom.
I'd also like to invite everyone to see a DOCTOR WHO fan video that
is being premiered at Visions: "Realitywarp"
The premiere is scheduled for Sunday morning, but keep your eyes
open for posters and flyers announcing any changes or alternate
showings! For more information on "Realitywarp" please visit the
official website at http://www.xnet.com/~loredata/realitywarp
For a sneak look at the movie, check out the movie poster at

Hope to meet some of you this year at Visions!

Upon searching for 'Visions,' your site was the only one I could find related to the Visions Con. But nowhere on it is there a way to contact the Dealer's Room coordinator. I'm desperately trying to discover if there is a way I and two other people can get fan dealer's tables. If not, we can't come and we desperately want to come to the con. Please pass this message along to whomever needs to get it and please ask them to contact me as soon as possible.
Please help me out! I'm really getting desperate here! Thank you for your time!

On 9/16, I posted information on an alternate Guest List Change
Notification service, as well as an inappropriate acceptance of
thanks. It was removed with the explanation that it had an obvious
implied flame. Unfortunately, by removing the whole post, it
appears less like flame suppression, and more like censorship.
While I can understand the need to soften/remove blatantly
offensive language such as obscene wording, or racial epithets, I
would hope that this forum doesn't practice or condone censorship
due to differences of opinion, or a poor choice of words, and that
the removal of the post was simply an oversight in judgement.

*sigh* I really do think that we should rally around the idea of getting Jason Carter (Marcus Cole of B5) to be the new Doctor. He's available!
We all know that he's a fabulous looking guy! He has a mind that is absolutely incredible! His very personality IS EXACTLY like the Doctor!!
Has his priorities straight (family first and private life). AND....he LOVES being with the FANS!!
McGann has made it quite clear that he's above all of us! While he is a fine actor...he has let the fans down too much!
I personally believe that Jason Carter is the better choice all around!

It is sad that you continue to think I used any of your work for the new website, I would never use such poorly designed html. As far as your new comments about me stealing your AGLNS idea, maybe you should consider that NetMind has been around much longer then your new item, so if you want to get technical you took their idea.
If you are so convinced that I took any of your work or html, please feel free to contact my attorneys about copyright violations, they would be more then happy to take this to court.
Please stop wasting your time posting such nonsense and try doing some real html.
Dear Visions Webmaster,
My html is all written by hand, as are all my scripts. Without your software
packages to lean on, would you do as well? As far as Netmind, before
your reference, I never knew they existed. I knew people had "change
notification" buttons on their site, but that's all. If you are telling me
that adding the link to Netmind is pure concidence, and that no one suggested
it to you, then I owe you an apology. Also, I didn't accuse you specifically.
If I remember correctly, Bob calls the shots on your site. As far as copyright
violation, it doesn't apply - if you would like some references on the web
that explain copyright in more detail, just let me know. However, continuing
to copy my ideas, shows a lack of creativity (and morals). What you have
done is take the site, and change the window dressing (graphics), and you
replaced the scripts with other people's work (i.e. the forum, and AGLNS).
Take for example the acknowledgements at the bottom of the main page:
Acknowledgements: Visions would not be possible without a lot of work and
dedication from a number of people, including the entire convention staff
and all of the the volunteers who give up a good portion of their weekend
to help make our convention among the best that fandom has to offer. The
Visions Chairman is Robert McLaughlin. The Visions Co-Chairman is Patti
McLaughlin. This site is produced and maintained by Ronald F. Garrison
based on the concept by John Golkosky. The Visions Rookie Guide and
Masquerade details are provided by Jennifer Kelley. Newsletter updates
are provided by George Fergus. The Art show information is provided by
Jackie Paciello and James Wappel.
Funny, mine says:

Wow! What an amazing coincidence that you just happened to pick the same words
in the same order! One major difference is that my words meant something because
I wrote them with intent.
Really, your site is riddled with such examples, the most annoying of which
are where you still have my text written as first person, appearing as though
it's you.
Perhaps you could also update many of the dates on your site. I have scripts
to keep my "Updated..." references up to date. According to your home page,
your guest list hasn't been updated since April 17th. That's what happens
when you copy pages without understanding that they were driven by scripts.
You (or Bob) also copied the idea of, not to mention the actual links from,
my guest list. Never mind that it took hours to research them, they were
yours for the picking without any concern or respect for the work I did.
I do give you credit for finally starting to find your own (Perhaps
I wasn't finding them fast enough for recently added guests).
You still use graphics I created (for example, the background starfield,
and the blue Visions title graphic on your root page), you still use the
same file names and directory structures, and you have the audacity to
imply your site is original?
Perhaps you should stop wasting your time posting such nonsense, stop copying
my ideas, and try creating some original content/layout (and consider dumping
that gawd-awful midi).

I was just checking out the comments of other people out of curiosity, but felt that I had to respond to the SEJS comment from May 8. I'm sorry that this person is so upset, and do recognize the right of every person to voice their opinion (as I am voicing mine), but felt that their opinion was quite overly vehement against the Visions operation. I personally, am one of the many people who would attend Visions even without guest stars, as I have made many friends there. But I also respect that other people are there solely for the guest stars, and also that there are people who have different likes than myself. This person has the gall to say that "I think we deserve something at least" . This is uncalled for. The Visions staff does an excellent job of getting the guest stars that the people ask to see. If that person happens to be someone you don't like, I'm sure that there are plenty of other guests you can see! I think the guest line up this year is wonderful; but I also get the feeling that I might be a bit more open minded than SEJS! So, all I can say is - Keep up the great work! And as long as there is a Visions convention, I, for one will be there!
Despite my current (dis)association with Visions, I tend to
agree with you. Our surveys showed STRONG interest in bringing
Paul to Visions. I don't have the exact data, but I think he
was in the top 3 or 4 vote-getters for guests from Doctor Who.
Certainly there was some controversy re: his portrayal, but for
those of you who agree with SEJS (below), please keep in mind that
Paul didn't write the script.

This is most untolerable! First, you make the convention not all British by inviting Buffy people who aren't British or even that much Sci-Fi incase you haven't noticed. Then you actually invite McGann who killed and ruined the good Doctor. And instead of getting other companions or even trying, you go and get him, And once more, it will be very discouraging if you make people have to get pics together with classics plus Doctor killers. And this IS the 35th year, I think we deserve something atleast, even if you couldn't get Tom. Many people look foward to this convention all year, I know I do, but why change it? Just because attendance is low, doesn't mean you have to destroy the other goods of it. I really do think the con is great, but the last two years have been a little slow, as it hurts me to say. Just please, don't change it! Please!!!!!
