Many migrants are being seen in the Chicago area. Birds seen this week at Montrose include YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, CHAT, HOODED WARBLER, BELL'S VIREO, SUMMER TANAGER, WILLET, and LE CONTE'S and LARK SPARROWS. A HARRIS'S SPARROW was seen today at Lincoln Park's North Pond, and a PROTHONOTARY was there yesterday. Another HARRIS'S SPARROW was at the Sensory Garden in the Botanic Gardens on May 3rd. HOODED WARBLERS were seen today at Rosehill Cemetery, Perkins Woods, and Wooded Island. Also at Wooded Island today were PROTHONOTARY and BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS. A EUROPEAN GOLDFINCH was seen today at James Park in Evanston. A female BLUE GROSBEAK was seen yesterday in Loyola Park. WORM-EATING WARBLERS were seen recently at Jarvis Bird Sanctuary, at LaBagh Woods, Fullersburg Woods, and in Forest Park. A YELLOW RAIL was seen May 4th at the Air Station Prairie in Glenview. A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was seen May 5th at Tri-County State Park. LARK SPARROWS, SUMMER TANAGERS, and HOODED and KENTUCKY WARBLERS were reported this week from several locations. PRAIRIE WARBLERS were seen this week at Elsen's Hill and McClaughry Springs. A BLACK-TAILED GULL was seen May 1st at Winthrop Harbor's North Point Marina along with two LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS and two THAYER'S GULLS. A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER and two RED-THROATED LOONS were seen April 26th at Illinois Beach State Park. Two AVOCETS and a BALD EAGLE were at Baker's Lake on April 27th. Forty-seven WILLETS were seen May 2nd at the Wadsworth Wetlands along the east side of Route 41 about a mile south of Wadsworth Road. Please report your observations to Richard Biss at 847-265-2117.
