Mary Hobein's Genealogy Project

The Hobein shoe and boot store, 297 Blue Island Avenue, Chicago, ca. 1870. Only two people in this picture are identified: The woman holding the infant is Mrs. Henry Hobein (nee Anna Bollmann), the second wife of Johann Henrich (Henry) Hobein. Henry Charles Hobein is the boy on the right. We can only guess that Johann Henrich Hobein is the man in the dark suit, and that the infant is Emma Hobein.

My Family

Overview over my ancestors and the major branches of my family. These branches are:

Hobein (Hesse to Chicago) -- Godow (Mecklenburg to Chicago) -- Rappleyea (Netherlands to Colonial New York to New Jersey to Chicago) -- Sommerville (Ireland to Chicago) -- Deutsch (Cologne area to Chicago to Wisconsin) -- Schild (Bingen/Rhine to Wisconsin) -- Nussbaum (Rhineland to Wisconsin) -- Kraus (Bohemia to Wisconsin)

I also have several mystery photographs of people who are probably related to me, but I don't know who they are.

Transcripts and extracts from source material relating to the Rappleye family: New Jersey census extracts, wills, marriage, death, and baptism records, land records and other miscellaneous stuff.

In conjunction with my research on the Kraus/Fischer family from Bohemia, I have posted a table of contents and an English translation of excerpts from volume 15 (Elbogen District) of Johann Gottfried Sommer's 1847 book The Kingdom of Bohemia - In a Statistical-Topographic Representation.
