Mary Hobein's Ancestors — Godow and Schmidt from Bützow (Mecklenburg-Schwerin) to Chicago

Please if you would like more information, or if some of these people look familiar to you.

Heinrich and Sophie Godow (nee Schmidt) came in 1865 from the Bützow (modern postal code 18246, Kreis Güstrow) area, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, to Chicago, IL, with their children Mary/Marie (1848-1934), Henrike (also referred to as Frederieke or Eureka) (1852-?), Sophie/Sophia (1855-?), Wilhelmina (Minnie) (1857-?), and Dorothea (1863-1900). There they had one more child, Anna (1866-1939). The family was Lutheran. Heinrich is buried at Wunder's Cemetary in Chicago. Passage: ship Oder, arrived in New York on June 26, 1865, from Hamburg. After Heinrich's death Sophie Godow married the carpenter Ferdinand Henschel in Nov. 1871.

Their daughter Mary married John Oswald (1841-1909, of Baden/Baden); Henrike/Frederieke/Eureka married James Hughes (of New York); Sophie married Fred Voss (1847-1891, of Cammin/Güstrow, Mecklenburg), then William Kessler, and finally ended up in Seattle; Minnie married William Kuester (1850-?, of Bennekenstein/Harz); Dorothea married Henry Charles Hobein (1860-1937, of Chicago); Annie married Howard Andrews (of Connecticut), then a Mr. Hayes (first name unknown).

I have recently started to analyze church records from Bützow and am slowly finding some relatives, but I would love to hear if others have researched this family's German roots. I have already discovered Gina Kramer's website (in German) which lists several Godows and Fehmerlings, but I have not yet been able to make a direct connection. I would also like to hear more about Dorothea's sisters and their descendants.

I have a number of mystery photos of people related to the Godow branch.
