DIED - Rappelyea. On Monday, June 2 1884, Richard R. Rappleyea in the 70th year of his age. Funeral services at his late residence 273 Second Street on Wednesday, June 4th at 3 p.m.

Undated obituary from unknown Jersey City newspaper:

OBITUARY - EX-ALDERMAN RAPPLEYEA
Richard R. Rappleyea, a well known and respected citizen of this city, died yesterday from a complication of diseases, aged 70 years. Mr. Rappelyea was born in New Brunswick, N.J., where he learned the trade of carpenter and builder. While in early manhood, 51 years ago, he came to this city, then known as Paulus Hook. During his business career, he built many houses for the late D.S. Gregory and others. Mr. Rappelyea represented the old Fourth Ward in the Board of Aldermen from 1854 to 1856. He was a prominent member of the Volunteer Fire Department and for several years was foreman of Hercules engine no. 8. He was one of the originators of the first Exempt Firemen's Association. At one time he was an active Freemason being connected with Hiram Lodge, but of late years has lived in retirement. Mr. Rappelyea was noted for his sterling integrity and thorough business methods, and his loss will be mourned by a large circle of friends.

Mary Josephine Rappleyea

From undated unknown Jersey City newspaper (she was buried on January 3, 1916):

MISS RAPPLEYEA, PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHER, DEAD
Principal of No. 13 On Pine Street 25 Years and One of Organizers of Mothers' Club
HAD BEEN IN ILL HEALTH SOME TIME
Miss Mary J. Rappleyea, one of the oldest school teachers in this city, died yesterday at her home, 41 Summit Avenue. Although Miss Rappleyea had not been in good health for a long time, her death came as a shock to her many friends, especially the host of friends she had made during her years of activity in the Lafayette section of the city.
Miss Rappleyea in her capacity as principal of No. 13 School in Pine Street, which position she held for over 25 years, was unusually well known and prominent in the social as well as the educational life of Lafayette. She was particulary active as a member of the Mothers' Club of Lafayette, which in company with Miss Emma Ballou, she organized for the the welfare of the poor people of that section of the city.
The club is largely comprised of the mothers of the primary school children, and under the direction of the organizers and other prominent women of the Lafayette section has done much to allay the sufferings of the poor people of that part of the city.
Miss Rappleyea had been at her desk within a day of the closing of the schools for the Christmas holidays. Superintendent Henry Snyder said he considered her one of the most faithful and conscientious principals in the city's schools.
Miss Rappleyea was a graduate of the State Normal School at Trenton. She received her first school appointment Nov. 2, 1863 as assistant teacher. The year following she was transferred to No. 1 School in the same capacity. In 1870, she was appointed first assistant teacher, and the year following was transferred to School No. 6. In 1873 she was again transferred, this time to old No. 12 where she became first assistant teacher, and in 1880 principal of the school. In 1887?, Miss Rappleyea was transferred to School No. 17 in Mercer Street, and in 1890 became principal of the Pine Street School, over which she presided until within a week ago.
Miss Rappleyea was 69 years old. Her other activities in the social life of Lafayette were centered in the Travelers' Club. She was an active member of the Jersey City Woman's Club.
The funeral will be held from her late home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock.

Elizabeth Rappleyea

Jersey City Journal, evening edition 3 Feb 1937, p. 12:

Mrs. Elizabeth Rappleyea, formerly of this city, died yesterday at the Evergreen Episcopal Home, Bound Brook, following a brief illness. Mrs. Rappleyea was born in Jersey City and lived in Kennilworth before moving to Bound Brook a number of years ago. She was a member of Camp 20, Patriotic Order of America, and Loyalty Council No.6, Sons and Daughters of Liberty. She was the widow of Jermome Rappleyea and is survived by a son, Jerome, of 1043 Salem Av, Hillside.
