The DBC Outreach program dedicates itself to encouraging people of all ages to start birding! We can help your homeschoolers, classroom groups, scouts, church group, park district, or garden club learn about our local birds, their habits, and ways to provide food and shelter at your yard or other site. We bring loaner binoculars and field guides and explain how to use them.
Here are some other ways we can help develop a passion for birds and birding:
Homeschoolers — we can supplement learning with lessons about local birds and guided bird walks and describe scientific techniques used to monitor bird populations.
Preschool — we have talked in preschools about winter adaptation of birds and made bird feeders.
Grade school — see above; also we can help 4th grade students start a Junior Feederwatcher program.
Middle school — we have several Flying Wild facilitators and can help with classroom or field activities. We can help teachers identify local birds and their preferred habitats, migration patterns, and breeding behaviors.

Girl Scouts — We can help Brownies earn their Watching Wildlife and Eco-explorers Try-Its, Juniors with Animal Identification/Wildlife activities, and Cadets and Seniors complete All About Birds.
Citizen Science — We can link you with teams completing both the Spring Bird Count and The Christmas count.
Outreach is a rewarding way to give back to the community, and DBC members have many opportunities to participate in the program.
