Much ado about playing hooky is the theme of this trite teen
comedy from John Hughes whose specialty is the plight of
adolescents. The conventional formula elements are clearly
present; clever kids and bumbling adults. Yet this set up,
which worked for Hughes in his other projects, runs out of
steam here. Matthew Broderick is adequately charming in the
title role. Jeffrey Jones is funny as the harassed dean of
